Director of Fundraising
Job Description:
The Director of Fundraising is a vital board member position at The Michelle Young Foundation, responsible for creating and implementing a comprehensive fundraising strategy to support the Foundation’s mission. This role involves identifying potential donors, fostering relationships, and organizing events to secure necessary funding. The Director of Fundraising collaborates closely with other board members and staff to meet fundraising goals, ensuring the Foundation can continue empowering and uplifting communities through education and outreach. This is a volunteer position.
Key Responsibilities:
DEVELOP FUNDRAISING STRATEGIES:
Design and execute a strategic fundraising plan that aligns with the Foundation’s goals.
Explore and implement innovative fundraising methods, including digital campaigns, grant writing, and corporate sponsorships.
DONOR CULTIVATION AND STEWARDSHIP:
Identify potential donors, including individuals, corporations, and foundations.
Cultivate and maintain relationships with current and prospective donors.
Create personalized engagement plans to secure long-term support from donors.
EVENT PLANNING AND MANAGEMENT:
Plan and execute fundraising events, such as galas, auctions, and community gatherings.
Coordinate event logistics, including venue selection, guest lists, and volunteer management.
Ensure events are executed within budget and achieve financial goals.
GRANT WRITING AND MANAGEMENT:
Identify grant opportunities that align with the Foundation’s mission.
Write and submit grant proposals, ensuring compliance with all requirements.
Manage grant reporting and maintain relationships with grant-making organizations.
FINANCIAL OVERSIGHT:
Collaborate with the Treasurer and Finance Committee to develop and monitor the fundraising budget.
Provide regular reports to the board on fundraising activities and financial status.
Ensure transparency and accountability in all fundraising activities.
MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS:
Work with the Marketing and Communications team to develop materials that effectively communicate the Foundation’s mission and impact.
Oversee the creation of fundraising materials, including brochures, social media content, and email campaigns.
Represent the Foundation at public events and in the media, as needed.
Qualifications:
Proven experience in fundraising, development, or a related field.
Strong understanding of fundraising principles and best practices.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to develop and maintain relationships with donors, sponsors, and community partners.
Strong organizational and project management skills.
Experience with event planning and execution.
Ability to work collaboratively with board members, staff, and volunteers.
Passion for the mission and goals of The Michelle Young Foundation.
Commitment:
Attend monthly board meetings and relevant committee meetings.
Participate in major fundraising events and activities.
Dedicate an estimated 5-10 hours per month to fundraising activities, including meetings, planning, and events.
